Metallic mercury is not particularly toxic. You can eat mercury without any harm. Mercury compounds are often very, very toxic.
It’s like the asbestos clean up scam. Asbestos is only a harzard when airborne as an aspirate. You can eat as much asbestos as you like. Left alone in a building it is completely harmless. Yet we paid billions for worthless “remediation” because the contactors had the ear of Congress and an hysterical public egged on by a technically illiterate press.
