God forbid that common sense should ever enter into this equation.

And I qualify my stats by stating I am certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat Specialist, which means I teach folks how to invite the critters happily and prettily into their own little eco-systems and my yard is also certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat. I’d further point yon reader to my pic of the bird fellows right on this thread that I fed dutifully throughout this snow ordeal, God bless them all.

So while I am a conservative of the highest order, I’d argue I love the critters and environment as much as any environmental whacko, even more what with my long drive to Virginia three longs weekends in a row to get certified for all of this and all that being said....here’s the common sense side of things:

I never just throw anything reusable away. Grocery bags are great. First, I take one of the bags and stuff it full of lots of other of the same plastic grocery bags. I add the cat litter scoop and hang this on a hook in the laundry room where there are the litter pans. Every day I pull out a grocery bag thingie and the cat scoop. I scoop the litter pans, throwing the used litter in the plastic bag. I tie up the bag by its “handles” and toss it into the trash.

Boom, one use to carry in my grocery, another use to store my stinky used cat litter with a firm tie on top containing the odor. Those plastic bags are also useful for other things. They scrunch up goodly, put a wad in your purse. I use them as containers to gather like items...yarn of a color...that sort of thing.

Also, jars with screwable lids have another use before going into the trash. After emptying, say, the spaghetti sauce, I stick the jar in the dishwasher with the lid. The same jar makes a fine container to save doctored and jazzed up sauce with added meat for freezing. Other uses include storing gravy for use with individual meals or for freezing....instead of maybe ziploc bags...that kind of thing.

After using this sort of thing once, yeah I then throw it away. It’s how I was taught in the NWF classes and it’s how I train those who want an earth friendly eco-system. If all the world used their throwaways once more before tossing it would go a long way towards keeping the earth sweet and healthy. No need to eliminate every damn thing completely.

I also keep a happening compost pile in my yard, God Bless Me. I pile up the leaves and all year throw my garbage scraps within...coffee grounds, potato peels....makes the best, the sweetest, the most wonderful stuff that the gardens adore. This alone saves me bags and bags of trash that would go in the landfills.

First thing I check when going to would-be Backyard Habitat homes is the compost pile. Neighbors line up to get my compost which I give away from time to time. No wonder. They get a look at my gardens, they see the beautiful, sweet-smelling black stuff....and is great good stuff, God Bless America and don’t tell me conservatives don’t love this beautiful planet.

We just don’t fall for lies and deceit is all.

This Peter guy is just insane. He says we don’t have to worry much about al-Qaida because they have low popularity ratings.

And what a gas! (un)Reliable Sources tells us Michelle Obama has been on all these old media shows this week, yet, she should have stayed home for that little audience exposure

Just say No, Republicans!

Unfortunately the GOP still has not learned what their constituents want of them. They ARE going to show up and give the the man-child the platform he so desires. A REPEAT OF THE BEATING THEY TOOK FROM OBAMMY AT THE GOP RETREAT.

I missed that show in this market. Biden as VP had to be to make Obama look good, as an Al Gore would do for Clinton#1

And property rights are the key to successful capitalism.

Haiti = no rights at all. Everything at the whim of the ruling elites, whoever they might have been.

Sleazy
Corrupt
Treacherous
Deceitful
Duplicitous
Dishonest
Devious
Slimy
Underhanded
Untrustworthy

Yep, the only ‘common ground’ Republicans should have with the President is they both like successful businesses, only the Socialist wishes to confiscate all the profits with no regard for the economic principles and work that makes business’ successful

I prefer the Jack Bauer method of gardening, just use a dozen bricks of C-4 a couple of times a year and problem solved.

By the way he's on in 33 hours

First, while I believe you about studies showing mandated coverage causing little increase....I’d like to see a link to this assertion.

So far I've come up with one from a Connecticut perspective. CT is one of the higher mandate states (even higher than Maine, CA is the worst).

This study shows CT to have an increase of 6.1% over no mandates.

The "OLR" CT Report

My percentage of 3.5% was a US average, lowered by other states. You can see this when you look at the states side-by-side comparison.

I used to be an anti-mandate guy until I was shown that people would buy the stripped down policies and have to pay out the nose for their chosen benefit riders, since there would be fewer folks buying that specific rider.

I have no idea what guranteed issue and community rating is but I’d welcome more info.

If you look at that first link I sent, you can see that the Maine's regular premiums are multiple times those of high risk pool clients in other states.

Maine has guaranteed issue, which means you insure all comers regardless of health condition and put them in the same claims pool.

It also has community rating, which means that there is very little difference in your premium regardless of health condition or age (no underwriting).

Essentially, the "healthcare" product is no longer insurance.

They should just send one GOP representative for both houses...the most competent health insurance policy-wonk they have. He should simply deliver the package of printed bills...no need to speak.

Biden. IIRC, this is the guy who wanted to send Iran $1 mil, right after 9/11, to show them we did not hold them accountable for 9/11. His staff was open mouthed dumb founded over this and talked him out of it. The is the guy who wanted to divide Iraq into thirds, creating three distinct regions that would never get along. This is the guy who openly said zero was not qualified to be president and admitted Hillary would be a better VP than him.

All I can think of with Biden is “stand up Chuck.”

South Fla. has solved its health care problems.

We have a place called Jackson Memorial Hospital (I was actually born there).

They solved all their problems of handling a million immigrants(some are legal)by simply running 12 million dollar budget deficits per month.

Their billing is down just a little, only 25% of those billed pay.

Of course the hospital is going broke but problem solved.

It's kinda like the Joker is trying to do with the country, quick solutions always work for dems. Liberalism is so wonderful!!
