The whole point is to win the seat, though. Patches did something smart here... but for the Democrats, not for the GOP. He just made it likely they’ll retain it.

I really doubt that he did anything other than than to duck and run. My guess is, he doesn’t need to do it anymore since uncle Ted is dead.
