President Barack Obama says he is "completely agnostic'' about all options for repairing the federal deficit -- including new taxes on the middle class which he has pledged to avoid.

As he creates a fiscal commission by executive order to examine and recommend solutions for getting the federal government's balance sheet back in balance down the road, the president maintains that "all ideas are on the table.''

The presidential commission on the budget needs to consider all options for reducing the deficit, including tax increases and cuts in spending on entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare, the president said in the interview which is online at Bloomberg News today and appearing in BusinessWeek on newsstands Friday.

Can't find a link for Fox News yet.

Of interest is that they don't mention cutting pork and excesses in government spending for the fat cats, but want to cut entitlements for the masses.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. ...

ag·nos·tic

1 : a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god

2 : a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something

From a symbolic, populist standpoint, pork and fat-cat spending ought to be the first to go, if only because the cuts have to start someplace. The reality, however, is that cutting pork and handouts for the fat cats would have an insignifcant impact upon the deficit and the national debt. The only way to get our financial house in order is to slash and burn the so-called entitlements, and I don't just mean cutting the rate of increased spending, but actually cutting programs and year-over-year expenditures. Yes, this will be painful and likely to increase unemployment and the deficit in the short-term, but it is really the only way to restore the American dream before it collapses under the national debt.
