The background check is not the same as registration because no permanent record of gun possession is created. The Federal Government and most States and local jurisdictions are required by law to destroy the background check records after a period of time.

I support (within limits) background checks. I don't support registration. And I'd rather take my chances on criminal having guns that sign my rights away.
