There should be a big lesson in here for the GOP.

W pushed his Prescription Drug Plan thinking that it would be popular and win the Republicans some support in traditionally Democrat voting blocks.

Yeah, THAT worked out well!

No point in creating new entitlements with that logic since obviously you don’t get any credit from the recipients and they still don’t vote for you.

It is actually quite popular, and GWB does get credit for it. Ask anyone thats on it....it was a Godsend for many. Of course, it is run by private insurance, successful, and under budget!

That doesn't hurt.

Incorrect. Bush "pushed" the prescription drug plan because the Democrats first proposed their plan that was 100 times more Socialist and they were using their "free drugs" hook as a campaign hook to gain control of the government.

The fact that the Bush version had a fraction of the price tag the Democrat version had, that its run thru the private sector and is consistently under budget is never considered or acknowledged by the Bush bashers who have acquired group amnesia and are becoming increasingly tiresome.
