Well, before the 1970’s, you could get ink poisoning, or more specifically blood poisoning...but they changed over to soy protein based inks and nontoxics so “inking ones self” became a non medical issue!(it was all for the children...). Which is why we see letters written in ink fading over time now!

Land sakes! I don't know how we survived finals then, facing the threat of BIC-poisoning on our palms. Or in the case of some kids, our arms—with quadratic equations reaching to the elbow.
