WASHINGTON - The Obama administration will ask Congress to improve childhood nutrition by ridding school vending machines of sugary snacks and drinks and giving school lunch and breakfast to more kids.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the administration will seek changes when Congress overhauls the Childhood Nutrition Act.
"Our children deserve better nutrition, and our country's better and brighter future depends on it," Vilsack said. "And with the reauthorization of the Childhood Nutrition Act scheduled this year, there won't be a better time than now to act boldly."

They should ban school lunches. You might as well be feeding your children from the dumpster.
Seriously: local school boards ought to make these decisions, not the friggin' White House, which, if I'm not entirely mistaken, might have some more pressing business to attend to at the moment...
Vending machines are when there is NOTHING else available.....I used to eat an APPLE out of a vending machine (it’s all there was!) after gymnastics when I was starving and waiting for a ride home....they DO serve their purposes
Yes, I think it is like 60% in our area in the major school district. And not only the free and subsidized lunches, but they have recently started giving free breakfast to all students. That would be, using our money. Or money that we thought was being used for textbooks, technology, etc.
Anyway, it is no business of the federal government to regulate vending machines on a local level, with one possible exception being inside of federal buildings.
In middle school I used to do exactly that, except it was mainly gum. Some teachers in our middle school would allow the chewing of gum in class, but many parents wouldn’t let their kids have it. So I used to buy 5-packs of gum for a dollar a piece and then sell each pack for 75 cents to a dollar. Then we got to high school where they had vending machines and I was out of business.
In the absence of a legal market there will be a black market.
Gay sex indoctrination is good... sweets are bad.
Teaching American history is bad..... Muslim tolerance is good.
Patriotism and prayers are bad.... teachers banging their students is good.
Gotcha....

He just thinks he is.
That’s very true, check out his “Race to the top” mandates. The creep literally wants to take over the entire school system and indoctrinate the kids with trash science like global warming.
He’s changed NASA’s charter intent to no longer look at OUTER space, but rather pimp the Global Climate Change message.
We use tax money to fund the lobbying agencies (that are corrupt and push a scientific lie) that we have to privately finance opposition against.
Yeah, they ban many school recess and PE activities; dodgeball, tag, chase, tackle-the-man-with-the-ball, etc., then they want to take out the vending machines because the kids are too fat. Typical liberal logic....TOTALLY ILLOGICAL!
The kids will just go to costco and buy their M&Ms in bulk, keeping them in their locker all semester and eating even MORE than if they had to buy each pack individually.
Sounds like a union demand to me.
Yes, teachers will staple a condom to all coursework handed out so no student will feel "embarassed" about having to procure a condom or discuss sexuality. < /sarc >
