“universally panned as nothing but an extremist, idiot, ignorant actor who misspoke all the time, particularly from when I first became aware of him, which is when he ran against Ford in the primary in 76. The vitriol and obsession with Reagan was far, far greater than any that was ever mustered for Quayle.”
Realize it was pre-pre-pre-internet, but do you know of any anti-Reagan quotes, links, clips? Interviews wherein the same news-idiot that pitched sweet softballs to the opponent, as Gibson did to Obama, tried to administer a civics/history/polysci exam to Reagan?
There wasn’t the same kind of patronizing, ‘Let me ask you what you know about government, honey’ tone to it.
But without the Internet the Walter Cronkites of the world just authoritatively ran their own narrative. There wasn’t a need for them to even bother with gotcha questions. I remember one book that was published in the early 80’s, “There he goes again!” (with a later edition titled “Reagan’s Reign of Error”), that compiled all sorts of Reagan’s supposed distortions, misstatements and made up facts. “There he goes again” was a phrase Reagan had used during his debate against Jimmy Carter.
You are kidding, right? Are you too young to remember the way the left went out of their way to sneer at Regan’s ideas and pan every idea he had or did you just not pay attention? I was 20 when Regan was elected and I remember what they did to him.I doubt if you will find much of that online because most anything that happened existed before 1998 just isn’t avaliable online.
