A long-simmering controversy about the private life of California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring has erupted into a divisive conflict within the party.
This week the San Diego Republican Party executive committee, led by Tony Krvaric, chair of the San Diego party, called a meeting for Feb. 8 to discuss the removal of Michael Crimmins, an ex-officio member of its central committee. The executive committee recommended Crimmins' expulsion, in part for sending an e-mail to state party leaders that raised concerns about behavior by Nehring and Krvaric.
Crimmins, a retired Marine Corps officer and congressional candidate in the 53rd District in San Diego County, referenced allegations, initiated in an anonymous e-mail broadly disseminated to the party and media last fall, that Nehring brutalized a former romantic partner.

Name calling doesn't further your argument. Ron Nehring is a good party leader dedicated to republicanism and conservatism. He offers party leadership that inspires and challenges others to strive towards excellence. Yes, as the chairman of the California GOP, he must endorse and support moderate Republican candidates as well. (He does also like to win elections, after all.) But to say that he isn't a conservative (or a good leader) is just not true. He consistently quotes conservative principles of limited government, lower taxes, and a strong national defense, and cites conservative leaders such as Ronald Reagan a his great influences.
So, don't tell me I need to "do my homework" in some infantile attempt to marginalize my comments. Have a nice day.
"Great day speaking to Tea Party activists at their convention in Nashville. True patriots."Not conservative? What gives with you infighters? He's being attacked at this time to divide the Republican party in California at a time when we need strong leadership and unity going into the November elections, IMHO.
The Sunstar account's basic dilemma is that FR is not partisan. It's principled. It is also frequented by many who are at the top of their class in knowledge of California political speak and speakers.
Might suggest that the dog and pony show be taken to DU were it may well be better tolerated. Keep the vitriolic nonsense off this forum. It helps no one.
Is there seriously going to be 5 parts to this?
mnehring: Any relation?
No relation, my last name really isn’t Nehring.
Thanks, didn’t mean that provocatively or anything, just curious.
I really want to know if this is going to go on for 5 more days.....
I have been told that there would be 5 parts to this story from more than one source. I’m starting to question the credibility that there will be 5 parts to this story at this point in time.
I guess we will just have to wait and see if anything else comes out.
“Interesting to see how big the news of the Democrat guy in Illinois brutalizing his prostitute gets treated....”
Ex-girlfriend: Cohen not fit to hold public office
They should all be treated equally...and removed from office.
It’s the media. GOP is always a scandal, Dems are always working on their problems.
Please go away.
I'am solidly against the Democrats.
This isn't the California chapter of FreeRepublican.
I don't care if the chairman of the CAGOP is Democrat or Republican. I don't care if he's a gentleman or schmuck. A dynamic leader or a hooligan. I care about his political principles. Is he principled or is he a ubiquitous, political whore? Does he have the same core values that he did 10 years ago? Is he a conservative, a moderate or a liberal?
I contend that Ron Nehring is a politically-principled leader, and a conservative one at that who addressed the Tea Party convention last week. He is known for advancing conservative principles and ideas such as limited government, states rights, lower taxes, etc. Oh, and he is also a Republican who likes to win elections... Sorry if that is some sort of negative trait!
Do you have any evidence to support your comments as to Ron Nehring, other than Sac Bee articles or unknown blog hit pieces that are short on substance?
As to your other remarks - I find you to be a contemptible jerk. Am I wrong about that too?
Read this article and the comments afterward. What a set-up!

Looks like the work of the... “MASTER BAITERS” themselves!
I didn’t see any press conference tonight. Maybe I missed it.
Monday, 2/8/2010, an out-ofcontrol Republican Party Of San Diego County Central Committee with 2 Chairmen (Krvaric and Nehring although Nehring stayed away Krvaric doesn’t breath without consulting Nehring first) abused their power by going forward, despite By-law and State Election Code violations, and with a total disregard for due process, took a vote and removed Ex-officio Member, Michael Crimmins. They then summoned hotel security and escorted him out. He was leaving anyway and did not warrant such despicable treatment. Again demonstrating Tony Krvarics thug tactics to show the rest of the Committee Members what happens if you cross him.
Here is Crimmins’ response:
“Right off, Im more than a little bit surprised at this intended proceeding fellow Republicans!
Here we are bringing Gitmo detainees into our country along with the Christmas Day airplane bomber, reading them their Miranda rights and extending them due process, lawyers, and all the rights we enjoy as citizens of this great nation.
And yet, someone who has actually fought and bled for this country to guarantee you those very same rights, you want to deny them their day in court. Help me understand that one please.
Just who are our leaders that are making those decisions leading us down that path and what is their agenda? Really. Theres something far more sinister going on here than meets the eye. And it is not politics.
To allow this to even remotely to get on the agenda demonstrates to me some among us need a serious refresher course in Civics 101. They embarrass themselves, you, and our party. It appears to me and maybe to you also a few among us certainly do not recognize the difference between a thugocracy and a democracy. And this is the party of Lincoln and Ronald Reagan? Give me a break! Time to wake up and smarten up! Their actions are patently un-American.
First: The Executive Committee violated the Bylaws by not providing me prior notification of the meeting.
Second: The Executive Committee did not solicit supporting evidence prior to the meeting for review, as required by the Bylaws.
Third: They are trying to remove me from the Committee. However, CA State Election Law Code, Section 7400 does not allow them to do so. Yet they are intentionally misleading the Central Committee that they can. I’ve consulted with Nielson Merksamer, the top political law firm in the state to affirm such. We have also consulted with the RNC General Counsel’s office and they are flabbergasted and greatly concerned to hear that a State and County Chairman would violate the states election laws and party bylaws to directly oppose and harass a candidate for Congress, much less one who was the 2008 nominee and the 2010 front runner. They are reviewing several present Bylaw violations, unprofessional conduct, and the Sacramento Bee’s article on Ron Nehring’s behavior with plans to act quickly to halt all of this stupidity. But even they agree that this is absurd and they are greatly concerned about Tony Krvaric and Ron Nehring’s shenanigans.
Fourth: The email sent out by Michael Rosen with the agenda of Tony Krvaric has been to directly hinder and oppose my campaign for Congress. Conduct which is unbecoming of a Republican Chairman, and also a clear violation of the Party Bylaws. The Bylaws do not allow for this motion to occur.
Fifth: These are all libelous and malicious claims. As I noted in my response, Mason Weaver and I spoke on January 17th at the Marriott and talked about this rumor that had been spread about some dumb racist thing. We both noted how in fact it was not as it was said. I’m greatly disturbed that someone who always talks about being anti-racism would all of a sudden fabricate something like this after having equally agreed that is was not true. Just as Tom Sudberry can verify that I was not undermining the party, just answering his own questions. I am a candidate and you cannot censure me for legitimate campaigning and answering the questions of a community leader. Everything I said was true.
Sixth: As Nathan Fletcher told Tony Krvaric, he ought to be more concerned trying to get rid of Democrats, than of Republicans. You should all be more concerned with the fact that Tony thinks he can harass, slander and remove a candidate for his own personal vendetta, despite whatever laws he may break. He has called and harassed my donors, supporters and endorsements and that type of activity is not only absurd, but illegal and a violation of our Bylaws and should it continue Ill be forced to seek other remedies.
How ironic that the very Bylaws he quotes also allows for his removal as Party Chairman.
Sir Winston Churchill said, With integrity nothing else counts, without integrity nothing else counts.
The truth does not fear the light nor the dark!”
Well said Michael!
