Report: Patrick Kennedy calls Brown's candidacy a ‘joke’
Boston Globe ^ | February 5, 2010

The son of the late US Senator Edward M. Kennedy has criticized Senator Scott Brown for accelerating his swearing-in, saying it showed Brown's candidacy was "a joke," a publication that covers Capitol Hill reports.

Representative Patrick Kennedy, a Democrat from Rhode Island whose father held Brown's seat for 47 years until his death last year, said Thursday that "Brown's whole candidacy was shown to be a joke today when he was sworn in early in order to cast his first vote as an objection to Obama's appointment to the NLRB," according to The Hill's Blog Briefing Room. "Senator Brown is eager to start working on behalf of Massachusetts families on policies that will create jobs and help the economy. He won't be sidetracked by negative partisan attacks that do nothing to help Massachusetts families find work," said Felix Browne, a Brown spokesman.

A spokeswoman for Kennedy didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.

Brown abruptly announced Wednesday that he wanted to be sworn in Thursday, a week earlier than the Feb. 11 swearing-in his campaign had been planning. Brown has said he wanted to start working immediately on urgent issues, but there has been plenty of speculation about exactly why he made the move.

Brown declined to say Thursday whether he would participate in a Republican filibuster of the Obama administration nominee, union lawyer Craig Becker, to the National Labor Relations Board, which brokers disputes between employers and unions. Becker's nomination could come up as early as Monday, possibly providing Brown his first chance to join Republicans in blocking a Democratic proposal.

Kennedy told The Hill that Brown had gotten strong support from labor households and his first vote would be "the most anti-labor, the most anti-what his constituents thought they were voting for when they voted for him."

Now that's the spirit!

The story was, before the War, old Joe Kennedy planned that Joe Jr. (who died in World War II) would be president and JFK would be senator from Massachusetts, and Teddy would be senator from Rhode Island. Funny how things turned out.

I think the plan was for Patches to serve one or two terms as representative and then ascend to the Senate, whence he would position himself to reclaim the family's legitimate and rightful hold on the Presidency. If all had gone according to plan, JFK would have been succeeded by RFK who would have been followed by EMK and then, God knows which of their spawn.

On the Kennedy Family Tree, Patrick is the sap.

Does that moron realize his father was sworn in the day after his special election? The hypocrisy of the Kennedy's is amazing.

...pardon my ignorance, is pat up for re-election in Nov and, if so, is he behind?

Not sure how the polls are faring for Patches, but ALL reps are up for re-election every two years.

He was elligible to be sworn in 10 days after the election.
Therefore, he was not sworn in “early”.

Remember when this tough guy assaulted a female TSA guard in 2001? I am shocked he survived that. It is time to knock his drunken ass out of office in 2010.

Kennedy would think him a hero if he had been a Democrat sworn in early in order to be the swing vote passing Obamacare.

Patches, You have NO marketable skills and even less real-world experience. In the best of job markets you would have a very hard time finding work. You’re going to be pounding the pavement come early 2011. I doubt your own relatives would hire you.

The people spoke when they elected Scott Brown over Martha Coakley. The libs, such as you, will have to deal with it.

Brown is but the tip of the iceberg for what is coming to the Progressives. The fact is that the left just loves partisanship. They want it their way or the highway. Well, your way got the people unhappy. So now it is the real conservatives turn to take back this country and fix it from all the wreckage of the last several years by progressive liberal statist.

And although I know Brown is not conservative enough on some issues, he isn’t a wacked out progressive. He is actually the best kind of Republican that could come out of Massachusetts.

Rumor has former Prov mayor Buddy Cianci running against him?

I’m about to return a copy of “The Prince of Providence”, about Cianci, to the library but before I do, from p 194:

When Patrick Kennedy announced his candidacy Cianci went after the Kennedys on his show. What had Patrick’s father known about Chappaquiddick? How had a young woman drowned* (sic) in the car accident while his father swam away? What about Ted’s alleged affairs with women? Why did he drink so much?

When Patrick Kennedy, a timid Providence College student,
came on the show, Cianci ripped into him as a carpetbagger
who didn’t know his district. Before long, Cianci had Kennedy stumbling over street names in Mount Pleasant.
Calls flooded in, asking the befuddled Kennedy if he knew where Jasmine Street was, or if he knew the Mahoney family.
The show was a disaster. But Kennedy, backed by his family name and money, and a dose of sympathy from Cianci’s attacks, went on to victory, the start of a successful
(sic) political career that would carry him to Congress.

*(Actually Mary Jo pretty much suffocated rather than drowned. But “befuddled” is a good word to describe Patches.)

My song parody set to Patches by Clarence Carter—
he got the nickname due to Howie Carr, and the song

original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2qWcSjM-gA

My father was a drunk old man
I could see him with the Chivas in his hand
He put a blonde in the pond
Didn’t think he did anything wrong
Never spent any time in jail
Got re-elected without fail

Oh life’s not easy for a Kennedy
The pills and the booze and the broads you see
One day pappy took me to his dyin’ bed
Poured himself a Chivas and with tears he said

He said, Patches I’m dependin’ on you son
To pull the family through
My son it’s all left up to you
