Nothing in the private sector to compare with that, is there.
I must have missed that brief when I was hired! Please take at least a minute to review the FERS retirement plan. One % of high-3 average/per year, diet COLA and survivors get a percentage of the pension (usually half), not the full benefit, and that's only after I've paid an insurance premium out of the pension. Just like my survivor's benefits for the military. So at 25 years the pension is 25% of the average not 90%. Medical benefits are paid by the retiree at full cost because the government cost share goes away.
Of course nothing in the private sector compares...because it doesn't exist even in government. Statements like your are part of the problem.
On the current retirement plan a federal employee would only receive 25% of the average of his high three years, and I'm not sure if you qualify for retirement that early. On the old retirement plan you would get 46.2%, but there are very few people left on that plan.
On the accelerated law enforcement scale 25 years would qualify for retirement at 39% of the high three years.
I have seen teacher retirement scales that hit 90% for 25 years of work, but not federal employees.
Having commented on a subject you are obviously unfamiliar with as a factual matter, and having insulted those who DO work for the federal government, a mea culpa would not be out of order.
WOW!! What a deal! I can't wait to inform my husband who has worked for the Supreme Courts for 29 years that he can quit now on 90% salary with full medical benefits.
Silly man, he's thinking he has to work a full 30 to qualify for 60% pay and then pay both his share and the gov't share of his medical insurance - which effectively cuts his salary into less than half.
Therefore, he cannot afford to retire
But under the gov't plan you outlined he can!
So, what say you post the details of where he needs to go to access this terrific plan you outlined.
Or, you could just admit you repeated a rumour about something you know nothing about. ....just sayin'
