No Republican has had this good of a chance to win a Senate race in Illinois since Peter Fitzgerald. There are similar parallels between the two races. Both are occurring in off-year elections with a well-funded Republican candidate running against a severely tainted Democratic candidate. The main difference is that Fitzgerald was a clean slate and political newcomer while Kirk is a well-known moderate Congressman.
Fitzgerald was clean and opposed to the Combine. Kirk’s a liberal who is joined at the hip to that crooked machine. National Republicans win nothing with this assclown, but they’ll get a lot of headaches.
