Sen. Chuck Schumer's approval rating continues to slide
NY DAILY NEWS ^ | February 2nd 2010 | Elizabeth Benjamin

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand isn't the only one whose poll numbers are slipping.

Her political champion and mentor, Sen. Chuck Schumer, has seen his approval rating continue a downward slide.

He's dropped below the all-important 50% approval mark for the first time since 2001, according to a Marist Poll released Monday.

Forty-seven percent of New York voters statewide say Schumer is doing a "good" or "excellent" job, while 31% gave him a rating of "fair" and 17% say he's performing poorly.

In April 2001, 49% approved of the job Schumer was doing.

This isn't his all-time Marist low, however. That came in March 2000, when just 39% of voters statewide gave the senior senator good grades.

Schumer's decline is most precipitous in New York City, where his approval rating dropped from 57% to 51% in just two weeks.

"Sen. Schumer is not immune from the anti-incumbent sentiment among voters, but it would take a major effort to unseat him," said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff.

Another good sign of the trend. He came out against the show trials a little too late. Seemed totally disingenous. The time to speak out was when zero and holder proposed it — not after we the people objected. They all keep choosing to march in lockstep with their messiah now they’re paying the price.

If true, this is the best news I've heard all day.

“it would take a major effort to unseat him”

LOL. His own petard ought to hoist him quite efficiently, thank you.

Larry Kudlow is considering a run against Schumer! Not only do we need more Rs in the Senate, NY needs a senator who actually understands its main industry: finance, banking, Wall Street and the economy.

Please help get the word out:

Schumer is a moron, a partisan hack.

He represents a group of democrats that are not only incompetent but also corrupt and hypocritical.

Schumer joins Dodd, Murtha, Reid, Pelosi, Rangel, Landrieu, Lincoln, Nelson and many others who are the most incompetent and corrupt people in government.

I don’t understand how he could have an approval rating to begin with, that could slide.

True. But there’s got to be a campaign first! Need to do all we can to create a groundswell for Kudlow to run against Schumer and WIN.

Senator Kudlow would run circles around the Rats trying their bullcrap on taxes, the deficit and so on.

I think the entire nation could benefit from Kudlow’s expertise, coupled with his optimism, at this point in history.

If some strong GOP candidates would step up to the plate we could make this a double whammy in NY. It’s no longer looking impossible.

I wish he would run. I’m a big fan and would even volunteer to work for his campaign.

What is up with these enlightened New Yorkers?

After hearing the bad news from budget proposal, and the defunding of Space Program, this is good news.
I never thought than any news about Chuckie “The Slime Of All Time” Schumer would lift my spirits. May he suffer a million chads from the reject column!

Too smarmy to deal with! I do not understand why people vote for anyone simply because they have a D or an R by their name.
