The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, is a collective piece of crap.
It was oversold as a "one aircraft can do everything" before I retired out of the USAF in 2000, and it didn't do anything well.
It's too heavy, and too complex.
The F-22 beat it, with no effort at all.
Like all other government boondoggles, the F-35 was bound for failure from the day they decided to make one aircraft fit all the different needs of all the different branches of the military.

The F-22 beat it, with no effort at all. I heard someone around here claim that was the reason the FF-22 was canned: because it beat the totally awesome Fighter of the Future!™
and the politicos didn't like that.
