The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, is a collective piece of crap.
It was oversold as a "one aircraft can do everything" before I retired out of the USAF in 2000, and it didn't do anything well.
It's too heavy, and too complex.
The F-22 beat it, with no effort at all.
Like all other government boondoggles, the F-35 was bound for failure from the day they decided to make one aircraft fit all the different needs of all the different branches of the military.

the only thing that the F-35 can offer is escalating costs, buggy software, and delayed deliveries.

Brought to you by C and C++… because finding Ada developers is too hard (from wiki: Much of the F-35's software is written in C and C++ due to programmer availability, Ada83 code also is reused from the F-22.) — we should probably be thankful they didn't try to use PHP in order to increase developer availability.
