California Girls
LA Times ^ | Unknown | Burt Prelutsky

Posted on 01/26/2010 7:22:54 AM PST by Dick Bachert

This quote MAY be an excerpt from a longer piece I missed. It came to me via email from an old friend. It is so funny -- in a sad, sick way -- that I felt compelled to post it here.

"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close.

When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we're number one. There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth'.

The three of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words."

Burt SHOULD have expanded this to the guys. He could easily have included Henry Waxman, Fortney "Pete" Stark (as in RAVING MAD) and several others.

Share this with others. Perhaps the voters of California will correct their earlier errors by bringing them home (unless they don't want them back) and send folks with some common sense who don't look and sound like they missed several electro-convulsive shock therapy appointments.

If you mention the Scottish play, bad things will happen. It is like watching the “Ring”.

or simply marvel at their ability to form words.

There is a profound intellectual schism between the verbal paradigm of the brain and the ability to mentally see, analyze, and construct. Psychology has not addressed it comprehensively, but historically and experientially it is clear to the observant.

For instance one could take Shroedinger's wave equation and throw out a whole lot of included verbalisms, Planck's constant, partial derivative, time independence, blah, blah, and to stupid people sound intelligent. But that has absolutely nothing to do with understanding and employing it. One can wax rhapsododic over the planform of an F-22, aspect ratio, cross-section, blah, blah, but that has nothing to do with conjuring and designing the damn thing.

When Noam Chomsky proclaims language is thought he is showing his stupidity. It is not even close. Another example are the Cro-Magnon or later cave drawings in France and Spain. They are not spoken language.

It is a proven observation that women are centered more around verbalism than quantitative and visual analysis. Hence the presence of those such as Feinstein, Boxer, and guess WHO? - Barack Obama. Included for the most part are lawyers, who naturally dwell in the venue of verbal onslaught rather than constructing time dependent wave forms of molecular models - they naturally (mentally) gravitate to the former activity. Guess what most of our politicians are?

Jaynes (The Origin of Consciousness --) alludes to this (but not enough) in the dramatic origins of analytical thought in the Greeks. Any experienced reader can pick out individuals who are very talented visually and quantitatively, but not particularly articulate.

Words of a language are simply superficial symbols of much deeper mental processes. One can throw around the word symbols with aplomb, like throwing around the American flag, and not have a clue as to understanding the more complex constructs.

And thus we have Barack Obama, with his "Gift". Not unlike Elmer Gantry and his flock.

Nice post. Any thoughts on Barbara Boxer (born in Brooklyn, NY,) Dianne Feinstein (married to East Coast doctors and investment moguls,) and Nancy Pelosi (born in Baltimore, MD) being of a mindset anathema to that of California. Furthermore, although it’s just a coincidence, these women hail from long lineage religions (Jewish and Catholic) that are antithetical to their political ideologies. What sort of self hating psychosis is at work there?

"I don't know what it is about California"

Since it seems that Liberals group together on the left and right coastal areas, maybe Michael Savage is right and Liberalism IS a mental disease - caused by a seaborne communicable virus.

I will put my idiot Senator, Patty Murray, up against any other Senator in the clueless competition. California does not have a monopoly on idiot Senators.

And this ties into your thoughtful remarks and fits Obowzo, Boxer, Pelosi, Fineswine, et al to a “T.”

“(…) the spread of secondary and latterly tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well-developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.” — P.B. Medawar
