I believe he can. Even if JD doesn't win, McCain's been running radio ads portraying himself as an anti-Obama, rock-ribbed conservative. Without a challenger, McCain could have lapsed into Amnesty / Cap N Tax mode. So even if JD loses the race, he still wins.

I’d like to see him run for President, but I guess getting him in the senate, retiring the maverick, and getting his visibility higher would halp. I don’t want them giving him the same treatment that they gave Duncan Hunter should he decide to make a play for the brass ring.
