SC Latinos regroup for immigration reform (illegals want amnesty, freebies) (Grahamnesty alert)

Advocacy groups step up efforts to rally support.

BY NOELLE PHILLIPS

In recent weeks, Latinos in South Carolina have gathered for food and conversation to discuss a strategy for immigration reform.

Energized by the election of President Barack Obama, they are trying to push the explosive issue back into the national conversation.

"It's going to come up," said the Rev. Sandy Jones, pastor of Spring of Life Lutheran Church, which has a predominantly Hispanic congregation. "I'm afraid this debate is going to be more vitriolic than health care was."

People attending these events want the federal government to create a way for illegal immigrants to become documented and stay in the United States.

Those opposed to that idea are gearing up for a fight, too.

Opponents of immigration reform shared the stage at an early January "tea party" on the State House steps with other groups who are frustrated with the federal government.

And when the Lexington County Republican Party censured U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., it listed his willingness to discuss immigration reform as one of the reasons.

The two sides disagree over how to handle the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States. South Carolina is home to more than 80,000 illegal immigrants, most of whom are Hispanic, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

While a new immigration reform bill has been filed in Washington, political onlookers believe the issue will be on the back burner for a while.

That's because the health care debate has not been resolved, said Kevin Bishop, a spokesman for Graham.

"We don't know when health care will be finished," Bishop said. "The health care debate has dragged on much, much longer than they ever thought it would."

Why should people who break the law get a free pass?

I had to go through a long legal process towards US citizenship. First I had to prove my worth at work to get sponsored for immigrant visa and then more years of wait to be eligible for citizenship.

If laws are ignored then anarchy and chaos is next.

“If laws are ignored then anarchy and chaos is next.”

Yes. If the laws fall apart, so does the nation.

That is the thing I detest most about this invasion of illegal aliens across our southern border: a disrespect for our laws.

Don’t forget how that SOB Ted Kennedy and the socialists changed the ethnic makeup of America via the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965

(Hart-Celler Act, INS, Act of 1965, Pub.L. 89-236) abolished the national-origin quotas that had been in place in the United States since the Immigration Act of 1924. It was proposed by Emanuel Celler, co-sponsored by Philip Hart and heavily supported by United States Senator Ted Kennedy.[1]

An annual limitation of 170,000 visas was established for immigrants from Eastern Hemisphere countries with no more than 20,000 per country. By 1968, the annual limitation from the Western Hemisphere was set at 120,000 immigrants, with visas available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the number of family reunification visas was unlimited, and it is only now that there are any country-origin quotas for spouses of US citizens, and numerical quotas for other relatives of US citizens.

In the Democratic-controlled Congress, the House of Representatives voted 326 to 69 (82.5%) in favor of the act while the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 76 to 18. Opposition mainly came from Southern legislators. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the legislation into law. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 became law on July 1, 1968. Along with the act of 1952, it serves as one of the parts of the United States Code until this day.

During debate on the Senate floor, Kennedy, speaking of the effects of the act, said, “First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia.... In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.... The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”[2] The act’s supporters not only claimed the law would not change America’s ethnic makeup, but that such a change was not desirable.[1]

By equalizing immigration policies, the Act resulted in a flood of new immigration from non-European nations that changed the ethnic make-up of the United States.[3] Immigration doubled between 1965 and 1970 and doubled again between 1970 and 1990.[1]

“Anna Walton, 22, and Cathy Hardin, 19,”
Start arresting and trying asshats like these two for aiding and abetting. Send them to the federal penitentiary for a few years and you’ll see a change in their lawbreaking attitudes.

ajay,
Welcome here, glad you made the effort to be here legally.
Most of us have no problem with folks coming here doing as you did.
It is those who are here Illegally that make us all mad.
I play golf with my kid in the back yard a few times a week.
Too fun.

I am an American citizen, born and raised here. I want to know what laws I can break that I will not only NOT be punished for breaking, but will be rewarded for breaking, as well.

Obamacare was all but crushed, now Shamnesty needs to be crushed.

No illegals means more Americans working American jobs, less people on unemployment rolls or welfare, less taxes.

What’s not to like?

Do you just love (not) the term, “undocumented worker?”

I would like to rob a bank. Except, I won’t be robbing the bank....I’ll be making an “unauthorized withdrawal.” And, I should be allowed to keep the money and not get prosecuted. That’s pretty much what illegal aliens are being allowed to do on a daily basis.

Same F’ing number used for the past 10 years.
