Gibbs: 'Right decision' to read underwear bomber his rights
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs Sunday defended the decision to read so-called alleged underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab his Miranda rights after just 50 minutes of interrogation, saying that FBI interrogators believe they got valuable intelligence and were able to get all that they could out of him.
That decision was made by the Justice Department and the FBI by experienced FBI interrogators, Gibbs said on Fox News Sunday. But make no mistake Abdulmutallab was interrogated and valuable information was gotten by those experienced interrogators.
After he was read his rights, Abdulmutallab stopped cooperating with investigators.
The Department of Justice made the right decision, as did those FBI agents, Gibbs said.

Corroboration! Been there done that for 30 years.
Raw intelligence also has its value and its uses. The problem is it must be in the right hands and not held past its ‘shelf life’ awaiting formal procedural corroboration.
Still, communication must be occurring. The Gorelick Wall frustrated and hampered us during the Clinton years. Was removed during the Bush years. However I believe it has been reinstated in some form or fashion by the Obama Administration.
The NIC should be staffed and working well by now ... no matter who is in charge. The various should have informal and formal avenues of communications established.
I see Holder’s fine hand at work here once again. The government’s time line says that Abdulmutallab was originally detained by Customs and Border Patrol officers. This includes his initial arrival at the hospital. During this time he was questioned and, apparently, freely admitted his ties to Al-Qaeda.
The fact that he was under the auspices of the CBP indicates to me that he was legally considered to have not yet entered the United States. Still in the transit lounge, as it were. In addition, it’s worth noting the CBP is under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security.
Here at least, Napalitano’s system was working. The subject was being be treated as a combatant legally outside the USA.
Then Holder’s guys (FBI) appear on the scene. Once Abdulmutallab comes to from emergency surgery (correct in my opinion - he is a POW - you treat their wounds) he is suddenly deemed to be no longer an intelligence asset and Mirandized.
Is Holder addicted to reading enemy combatants their rights or what? First the KSM farce now this.
His rights should have been read to him:
You have no rights and you will be executed in one hour!
Funny but BAGHBOY BOB’s bag should conatin steaming dog crap.
The most competent, honest, and transparent administration ever.
