Too Much of a Bad Thing

Too Much of a Bad Thing Who’s panting for Obama speech number 412? Exactly no one.

By Mark Steyn

So what went wrong? According to Barack Obama, the problem is he overestimated you dumb rubes’ ability to appreciate what he’s been doing for you. “That I do think is a mistake of mine,” the president told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we’re making a good rational decision here, then people will get it.”

But you schlubs aren’t that smart. You didn’t get it. And Barack Obama is determined to see that you do. So the president has decided that he needs to start “speaking directly to the American people.”

Wait, wait! Come back! Don’t all stampede for the hills! He only gave (according to CBS News’s Mark Knoller) 158 interviews and 411 speeches in his first year. That’s more than any previous president — and maybe more than all of them put together. But there may still be some show out there that didn’t get its exclusive Obama interview — I believe the top-rated Grain & Livestock Prices Report — 4 a.m. Update with Herb Torpormeister on WZZZ-AM Dead Buzzard Gulch Junction’s Newstalk Leader is still waiting to hear back from the White House.

But what will the president be saying in all these extra interviews? In that interview about how he hadn’t given enough interviews, he also explained to George Stephanopoulos what that wacky Massachusetts election was all about:

“The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office,” said Obama. “People are angry and they’re frustrated, not just because of what’s happened in the last year or two years

Love it, love it , love it. Mark Steyn comes through once again with spot on observations that both hit hard and entertain.

Steyn, as usual, gets it just right. Zero is the quintessential empty suit.

Pickup trucks are codes for racism! Who knew?

Volvos must be codes for enlightenment and caring.

You’re out of touch...it’s no longer Volvos but the Prius as the left standard-bearing automobile :)

What are those Cadillac pickups saying? I’m confused.

Perhaps if the the clown with big ears in the WH, spoke with a Negro dialect, we could understand him.

OK, so I just did a little math and I think I'm being pretty conservative here. If you figure each speech is about an hour (not necessarily speaking but getting set-up etc.) and has about 2 hrs of rehearse/writing time that's 3 hrs x 411 = 1,233 hrs. Each interview also 3 hrs is 53 x 3 = 174 hrs. 29 rounds of golf at 6hrs per = 174 hrs. 20 days of vacation, HI and Martha's Vinyard (not counting yellowstone, Camp David etc and only counting 8 hrs a day for those days is 20 x 8= 160 hrs for a grand total of 2,041 hrs.

Now there are 2,080 hrs in a 5 day 52 week year. So Dear Reader managed to put in one full week of work beyond golf, vacations, speeches and sycophantic puff interviews.

Here is what our elected officials have in store for us. If this doesn’t scare you, nothing will!!!!

Common sense ought to tell everyone that IF the proposed Federal Health Care is such a good thing for America, why are they creating it behind closed doors and having to buy Representatives (with millions of our tax dollars) to obtain their vote? Congress and some of the Unions and even the state of Nebraska are exempt from many of the provisions in this bill......... why?

Share this with everyone on your list.

You people who are FOR this: spend a few minutes here and tell me how this does not constitute national suicide?

I dare you to get 4 minutes into this without becoming SICK in your SOUL.

This is the dark shadow of totalitarianism, slowly moving across the land. And those of you who welcome it now, will live to regret it.

America is becoming a bilingual society, divided between those who think a pickup is a rugged vehicle useful for transporting heavy-duty items from A to B and those who think a pickup is coded racism.

The latter is the perfect description of the MSNBC primetime broadcast buffoons.

Printed this article to show to someone else who just doesn’t get it - family member. I printed it because he does such a good job of articulating what I can’t always articulate.

I’m sick to death of the whole elitist notion that they know the answer to everything; and the notion that a good education somehow makes you smarter than everyone else; and the belittling of people who can do things - as though the ability to talk about it can actually make something so - no need to actually DO anything.

It's escaped neither Steyn nor Obama that the Tea Party movement began with the Bush years Congress spending extravaganza. That Obama is Piling on by a factor of 10 means nothing to Obama. He still sees the possibility of anti-Bush votes! not recognizing that Bush is no longer running is Obama's Groundhog Day.
