Outstanding article.
Thank you for the ping.
Oh stop it.
He said, on tape, that his agenda was "to build coalitions of power to bring about redistributive change". He said that his plan was to "fundamentally transform the United States of America". He wrote, not once but twice, that he decided to become a politician when he was "electrified" by a phrase in a sermon. That phrase was "white folks' greed runs a world in need" (which, by the way, was referring to Port-au-Prince, a place where white folks, greedy or otherwise, have as little influence as anywhere on the planet).
All this was glaringly obvious by August 2008 at the very latest.
The problem with Obama is NOT that he's breaking campaign promises.
The problem is that he's keeping them.
Happy to. I don't want to intrude on anyone who's not open to discussion.
That’s just the thing. The Narcissist doesn’t respond to these sorts of reversals with honest, rational self-reevaluation - if he did, he wouldn’t be a Narcissist.
Instead, his nature dictates that he respond with paranoid feelings of betrayal. He blames his failures on everyone around him, believing that they have either let him down or are actively conspiring against him. From what few clues we’ve seen as to Obama’s reaction to these events, it’s starting to look like that’s exactly what Obama is doing.
IMHO, I think VDH’s writing is getting even better lately, as exceptional as he was already.
Disagree. Even if they "knew" he was lying, a vast swath of the electorate voted for him -- which means either that they didn't "know," or that they let their attraction to Obama overwhelm any doubts such lies might have engendered.
This is nothing new in human relations: how many marriages begin with such hopes -- and founder once the hopes can no longer compete with the lies? And how many political or religious movements have risen and fallen over the same phenomenon?
Human nature has the unfortunate tendency to elevate hope far above reason. Obama's election is no different in that regard.
You get what you reward, not what you think you reward, and 0bama has assumed that because he has a number of extremely wealthy donors, he has control of the capitalist classes, if there is any such thing clearly defined at all. It is an ideologue's approach. Where you punish risk-taking with attenuated rewards that are taxed and redistributed in pursuit of "social justice," you're punishing risk-taking. And you'll get less of it.
We must remember that 0bama is, in political terms, a very young and inexperienced man who is attempting to do what all such people do, substitute a theoretical understanding for the lessons of hard experience. Everyone with the latter knows how terribly inadequate the former turns out to be. That is not a lesson that is readily available when one fills one's staff with academics and the theory-besotted. Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton can't help him but a Dick Cheney could.

VDH for president!
VDH’s writing is becoming EVEN better because he is so passionate about his subject...”the One”. You can almost feel the thermometer rising as he typed this!
VDH’s words really set me off. He has got it perfectly, and THIS is the bald honesty that we have been almost loathe to accept in it’s totality...because then what do we DO with the Narcissist?
I can’t imagine three more years of this schmuck and his angry wife. Thank God for ‘41’ and the (temporary)reversal of our fortunes...
