Lady NRA member here. I get great advice from the Freepers on “the banglist” about firearms purchases.
You’re right on about a shotgun for home defense. The shots are less likely to go though walls and injure family members. More likely to take down the intruder fast.
When I learned to shoot 10 years ago, we got a handgun like the one my husband used in the Air Force, a Beretta 92F 9mm. It’s easy for me to use and is still my favorite after buying more guns of larger calibers.
Depends on the size of her hand what you should get for her. I can handle the larger frame guns. It has to feel right for her. I tried the various makes of 1911’s and they don’t fit my hand because they were too big. They are more suited to the male hand.
The folks at “the banglist” threads are a wealth of knowledge. They often recommend that gun buyers try out guns that they can rent at shooting ranges to see what feels best.
Get a shotgun and a handgun. Soon you’ll be adding more than that. Around here, the ammo shortage is much better than earlier this year.
Makes I have and like are Sig Sauer, Ruger, Beretta, Colt, and one sweet little Henry Golden Boy .22mag rifle. No shotgun yet. Biggest thing I got is the .45 Ruger P90.
Happy shopping!
Yes. I was thinking about having both too. Good advice. I will check out the banglist. Thanks!
