The poverty,lack of jobs,lack of education and just the daily struggle for enough food on the table, a roof over one's head puts the lust for democracy down the line and not an immediate challenge.True, but it has to happen if they ever want out of their current situation. Little or no corruption and a government that encourages investment and competition, along with low taxes would stimulate investment and jobs. The Domican Republic is on the same island, Puerto Rico is not far. Both of those are miles ahead of Haiti.

Ultimately it all depends on who is running the country. If it's another tin horned dictator,freedom will remain allusive. If they get the right person at the right time,who knows.
