Italy is desperate, very desperate, to have its industry, what's left of it, make some money. Any which way. Otherwise the ship is going down soon, and hard. Greece, Spain, and Portugal would do the same if they had the capability. They don't, and they're circling the drain, going down soon.

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini warned Europe "must not burn every bridge because Iran is a key figure" in the region.
The pooled currency (the Euro) comes with various financial and budget requirements, and some member countries have been in violation of some of the requirements. Thanks Weslo.
