Nice choice. Tchaikovsky actually wrote a part for cannons in the score.
But there's a delicious irony there. Tchaikovsky wrote the 1812 Overture (Opus 48) as a simple piece for an occasion and thought it would be forgotten. In fact, he didn't really like it all that much. His Opus 49, the Serenade for Strings in C Major, however, was a personal favorite and was the signature piece for his first American tour.
The irony is that while the Serenade has found a place in the chamber orchestra repertory, the 1812 Overture is a perennial pops favorite and is one of the pieces most associated with the composer. It would have surprised Tchaikovsky.

Tee Hee... I have THREE bakeries in a short walking distance (not counting bagel shops). All depends on your preference. Everyone seems to prefer the one they go to and don’t like going to the others unless they really have to.
