"Michael Steele makes a number of old-time Republicans very nervous," Gingrich said. "He comes out of a different background. He went to seminary ... he's African-American ... But I think he's pretty close to what we need. He's different, he's gutsy and he's going to make a number of Republicans mad."

Well, at least one good thing came out of the Scozzafava affair: hardly anyone in FreeRepublic is still talking about Newt for President.
He is not stepping up to the plate and saving Michael Steele; he is totally destroying himself.
What’s wrong with these guys? Just shut up, Newt. Go away.

Replace Steele with Dede Scozzafava in that sentence, and you have exactly the kind of man Newt Gingrich is. A man with no principles whatsoever, who would say anything so he can get paid to appear on MSM TV outlets. Hey, Newt, I am black and still don't want Michael Steele as RNC Chairman. He is just not the right man for the job, at this crucial time in the nation's history when everything must be done to bring down the unholy trinity of 0bama/Pelosi/Reid. We can't have an RNC chairman who is far more interested in selling books/giving paid speeches and making money than in winning elections and beating 0bama. Here is the reply of the month. You have had some good ones but this is great.

Newt continues to be a disappoint to those that at one time thought much more of him.
It seems to have all started with his trip to the couch with Pelosi.
Most folks eventually find themselves having to realize that they have become a “has been”..... and that it’s time to move on.
Newt is no longer helping, he should just move on down the road.

That's two strikes now against Gingrich.
He's showing himself as an establishment supporter. He seems incapable of challenging the sitting power of his own side.

Because he's African American, he's going to make a number of Republicans mad?
To: montag813
"Michael Steele makes a number of old-time Republicans very nervous,"Newt, please buy a clue. There are no more "old time Republicans". We figured out a while back that the Republican Party in no way resembles anything "Republican". We left, registered Independent, and now are the biggest voting block. Steele had nothing to do with that. He is just a symptom of the problem.
The only thing I get nervous about is that Republican insiders are all too stupid and full of themselves to ever figure it out.

I can only think that shutting down the government, which was wrongly blamed on him, caused some sort of mental breakdown for Newt. Folding on to the Dems on his book deal $7 million advance was the beginning.
He began to go from King of the Mountian and possible President, to worse than nothing over the last 15 years.
Smart guy who is now totally worthless.

Replace Steele with Sarah Palin and watch the RNC cash registers sing hosannas.
That’s what Newt is afraid of; his own political irrelevancy.
The move is already underway to make Sarah Palin the new RNC ChairWOMAN.
That’s what’s really worrying Newt and HIS ‘old-time’ Republicans.
