James Webb was the premier pop song writer of the late Sixties. He made a huge splash with "Up, Up and Away" in 1967 and kept writing one hit after another until his star came crashing down in 1973 with "All I Know".

"Wichita Lineman" was one in that great string of hits.

He occasionally writes songs for movies, but the old fire is long gone.
