Seems pretty stupid and wasteful, but it’s their stuff, their decision.

I agree. They bought it from the suppliers. Why can't they throw it out?

Maybe, as dallas59 suspects, some sort of con is going on. Short of that, I don't see why they can't destroy the stuff that they purchased.

the problem is also companies mistrust of employees, manager overorders merchandise, only to make sure it finds its way into her/his closet.. it happens all over...that’s why public schools throw out leftover food.

From what I read on the Yahoo comments sections is that the clothes are picked up by “foreigners” and shipped overseas as rags which are broken down then respun.
