I quit reading after he called the guy “not-so-bright”. By all accounts this guy is very bright and the ideal recruit for terrorists. Just because his crotch didn’t explode doesn’t mean he’s stupid - the last thing we need to do is underestimate these people.

You're right. I was watching a BBC report that said he was an exceptionally bright student. He did struggle a bit with his SATs, but while at University, he was making good grades. I also understand from an ABC report that while in Yemen studying at an Arabic learning center, he was a gifted speaker and reader of the Arabic language - not his native language.
A non-Muslim American woman who was his classmate said in the interview that he was polite, intelligent and friendly. I think this attempt by many in the media to portray this kid as troubled or unintelligent is just another attempt to explain away the fundamental dangerous problems associated with Islam. It's not the people, it's the religion.
