Will Latest Jobs Bill Really Produce Jobs?

More spending is certain, more jobs are not in Democrats' new jobs bills

When the Senate takes up a jobs bill later this month or early in February, the debate will center on whether it really will create jobs and be worth plunging the government tens of billions of dollars further into debt.

Republicans scoff at the "Jobs for Main Street Act" title that House Democrats put on their $174 billion package last month. They refer to it as "son of the stimulus," the $787 billion economic recovery plan of nearly a year ago that they say was ineffective at producing jobs.

In its last vote of 2009, the House narrowly passed the bill, 217-212, without a single Republican supporter.

The dirty secret of the “Stimulus” and the coming “Stimulus 2 is that it was never meant to be be stimulative. These Leftist all claim to be Keynesian yet their “Stimulus” bill is not even Keynesian. It just a massive bribe to their activist base.

It has almost nothing in it that is actually stimulative even using the Keynesian theory of government directed stimulus spending. All the Dems did was hand out money to states and localities to paper over existing budget deficits. Now they want to do the same thing again.

Everyone overlooked the statement by the 0 Regime this month that one of the ideas from the “job summit” earlier this month was to “bail out state and local Governments to preserve jobs”.

Basically what the Democrats did was pay their Visa bill with our Master Card. Now they want to repeat the same fiction in Stimulus 2.

Their local and state special interest groups were facing serious crises due to a massive short fall in tax revenues so Congressional Democrats rushed to the rescue with the “Stimulus” bill. All that did was delay the day of fiscal reckoning for these state and local Governments. It does almost nothing to generate anything that will actually be stimulating on the economy

Democrats tick off the job prospects from the House bill's $75 billion in infrastructure and public sector spending: tens of thousands of new construction jobs, 5,500 more police officers, 25,000 additional AmeriCorps members, 250,000 summer jobs for disadvantaged youth, 14,000 part-time jobs for parks and forestry workers.

Construction jobs are skilled labor and are already pretty much at full employment. Further injection of money will simply push up the price of labor.

I am in favor of LEO but perhaps it would be better to simply try to find out which cities are being forced to layoff LEOs and help them keep them.

Americorps is a political indoctrination program and should be defunded. Same with the summer jobs programs.

Parks and forestry work should be volunteer work. Volunteers could be incentivized by giving them preferential treatment on hunting and fishing permits.

No.

Just like Clinton’s 100,000 cops.

Give somebody a raise using a government grant and you’ll have to cut their pay or raise taxes when the grant runs out.

2 years from now there are going to be a lot of POed taxpayers - you don’t think teachers will stand still for a pay cut do you.

Too much private and public debt is what created our current problem. More unsustainable Federal debt will only exacerbate the problem, not correct the problem. And worse yet, the government will assert still more control over citizens by placing the same citizen further in debt.

No. Get rid of the NIMBY anti-manufacturing zoning laws in rural areas, and that would produce jobs.

If you want job creation stop putting up mine fields along the way to prosperity. Socialized medicine and cap and tax are two massive job killers that businesses loathe. Stop the massive regulation and lower taxation and watch the economy come back to life. Given the state of this administration that would be more akin to asking a vampire to go to the beach!

“In the nation, this bill will provide 3.5 million jobs in the next two years,” said Klobuchar,

...“Ninety percent of them will be in the private sector,” she said.

Klobuchar, off by about (negative) -10 million jobs

If only the Soviet Union had passed as many “jobs bills” as our government does....well they would never have collapsed.

I will not play into this job creatioin nonsense. It is easy to create jobs using the rat formula: take from one group and give to other groups. You can have full employment with this approach. The issue is the cost of job creation. The Soviet Union and other Marxist societies had full employment but they were very poor. They had poor quality consumer goods, perpetual market imbalances, and very low standards of living. Production precedes consumption and investment precedes economic growth. Stimulate investment into human capital by reducing the many artificial barriers.

The collapsed Soviet economy should be a lesson about state control. However, the lessons seems to be lost on the rats. They think that the Soviets just were not smart enough. The rats know the appropriate mix of energy technologies, health care technologies, banking arrangments, and so on. Surprisingly, many people in the former Soviet Union long for the Soviet days. The transition to capitalism was botched but there is something more than the botched transition. Many take confort in the collective misery and certainty of their lives. My sister-in-law from Ukraine never speaks ill of the Soviet Union. She even has affection for Uncle Joe (the man of steel) even though he murdered millions of Ukrainians during the 1930s.

Will Mr. Dunham ever provide a long form birth certificate or release the cornucopia of other personal documents that almost every other POTUS has in the past?

You ask a rhetorical question you get a rhetorical question.
