Amsterdam, Jan 13 (DPA) A Dutch airliner made an emergency landing at Shannon airport in Ireland Wednesday after a passenger claimed there was a bomb on board, the airline said.
The ArkeFly flight carrying 224 passengers and 11 crew was on its way from Amsterdams Schiphol airport to the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba and Curacao a confused and aggressive passenger repeatedly told the crew there was a bomb on board.
The pilot ultimately decided to make an emergency landing, the airline said.
The man, described in the Irish media as a 44-year-old Dutch national, was being questioned by local police. Security staff body-searched and questioned all passengers and checked the entire aircraft for bombs and weapons, but none was found.
An ArkeFly spokeswoman said the airlines first priority was to get all passengers to their destination as soon as possible.
She said the airline would investigate what exactly happened and whether steps would be undertaken against the man.
