Richmond, VA) -- Governor-elect Bob McDonnell wants Virginia to become the first state on the Atlantic seaboard to explore and drill for oil.
The Republican has sent a letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, asking that Virginia be allowed to move ahead on offshore energy exploration. McDonnell cites an Old Dominion University study that concluded natural gas production would create hundreds of jobs and generate millions of dollars for the state.
It's believed at least 500-million barrels of oil could lie off the coast of Virginia.
Right, let's use our own and import less from the middle east and Russia.
Some feathers to go with that tar?
Just do it, McDonnell and screw the feds.
He also is requesting a change in the budgeting process. As it is now, he must implement another man’s budget: Tim Kaine.

Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell Calls for Major Reform in Virginias Budget Development Process
RICHMOND- Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell issued the following statement today regarding the need to reform the budget development process in the Commonwealth.
“There is broad support for reform. Governor Kaine and I, as well as key General Assembly leaders, support this change. Governor L. Douglas Wilders Commission on Government Efficiency and Effectiveness made this same proposal during the Warner Administration. I have spoken with many business leaders and citizens who support this policy change. It is a non-partisan recommendation that will ensure a much more orderly budget process. As a candidate for Governor I recommended this change as part of the government reform package Lieutenant Governor Bolling and I jointly announced in September.”
Excellent! Appears like he has an excellent chance of getting the reform passed.
I’m so happy he won your election and by such a large margin!!!!
Me, too! (pinch, pinch)
Some states have it and others don't. When I'm in Long Beach, California and look out to sea, the oil derricks look like fringe on the horizon. The new plan is to be further out to sea and out of the line of sight (I think).
I am smiling too and I hear you on the (pinch, pinch).
I literally stood and cheered as I watched the returns come in for your state on election night.
I haven’t heard anything on it since 2005, but I’m sure they are going to try to sneak it in.
So the “sovereign” Commonwealth of Virginia has to ask the federal government — pretty please — for permission to drill?
Screw that! DRILL!!!!
Then let them TRY to stop you!!
“Well see how the Obama administration responds, if at all”.
...they won’t. But McDonnell is doing his part and can use the BO refusal to cooperate against hime and the other commies.
