1} A plant by Homeland Security to see how observant New Yorkers are. Don't think so. The NYPD wouldn't disrupt life in midtown Manhattan and scare the public. They would have driven it away quietly.

It could have Allahu Akbar and a big clock counting backwards reading 34 hrs 43 minutes and they wouldnt consider is suspicious.
at least until it blew up, then we’d be hit with “no indication of terrorism” within 5 minutes.

I didn’t either. But maybe the tarp was holy Muslim green or had some other clue to make authorities think they were dealing with more than the normal vehicle tow.

Also, FYI folks -
Bing Twitter search is a good way to follow breaking updates on this. For example,
here is a link to the Bing Twitter search for "Times Square".

If the van did nothing more than park illegally, why would they take DNA, fingerprints?

An astute investigator would take fingerprints etc., as part of the fact finding.
i.e.What if the owner of the vehicle is later found dead? What if there are traces of explosives found in the glove compartment?
What if the driver is determined to be on a “watch” list?
