“When I worked for the Dept. Of Corrections about half of the inmate population was black. About half of those black inmates claimed to be muslims.”
Well, I was born in Memphis in 1944, and spent all but the last five years in the area.
In my early years, the city was 40% black.
I never heard of a Muslim there, but when the population flipped to majority black, the city was downhill from there, and no doubt they may be sucking in what use to be the black, but very Christian.
When I started working at the prison the first job they assigned me to was Housing Unit Officer. I was in charge of around 120 inmates. After the 9pm count I was locked inside, by myself, with them. I had no choice but to figure out who was who and what was going on in their world. To my surprise, more blacks than whites had at least a basic understanding of the Christian faith. However, the trend seemed to be that the blacks looked at Christianity as being a “white religion.” I believe many of them claimed to be muslim as an act of rebellion against whites and society in general.
When I made Sgt and was put in charge of “the hole” I found out that many of them were not sincere about their supposed conversion to Islam. On the days when we had bacon and eggs for breakfast quite a few of those “muslim” inmates that had a PF (pork free) next to their name on the board near my desk were willing to offend allah for the cause of fresh bacon. LOL
At the same time there were serious converts. Putting terrorists in with American inmates is a ridiculous and drastic mistake. Most of the American prison population can not be rehabilitated. More than 7 out of every 10 inmates released will return. These people are career criminals who refuse to do good and many them will readily accept the anti-American doctrine from their muslim brothers.
