had the detonator not failed, and the nation's outdated airport screening machines may need to be upgraded.

The liberal answer, of course, is spend more money - after all, our debt isn't anywhere close to high enough.

But more questionably is why would upgrading any (or perhaps all) of the screening machines in the US have affected this in the slightest? Do we have US screening machines over in foreign countries? Certainly news to me; I mean, I suppose I could expect them to be in Iraq, possibly Afghanistan, but doubtful in Europe. That was where the plane came from that nearly blew up over our city, right?

I flew out of Amsterdam, on Continental, a couple of years back, and Continental had additional screening for passengers on the flight to Houston.
