I've seen it hundreds of times down South. They move in and immediately start bitching about the way we live down here, and want to change it to suit them.

I hear it all of the time. I hold my tongue but I sometimes want to take them on. I'd ask them would you move to SF and complain about the gays, Gulfport Miss. and complain about the oil workers, Pittsburgh and complain about steel, or NYC and complain about the aholes? Of course not. Most people know what an area is like before they move there unless they're morons or arrogant and expect things to change just because they show up. I would then follow with if things are so great where you came from then what are you doing here?

Well, now the rest of the country is beginning to truly understand our disdain for carpetbaggers in the postwar south, as well as the finer point of historical distinction, between a yankee, who visits, and a damn yankee, who stays. Substitute Californian, and the shoe fits.
