HARRISBURG - Investigators questioned Sen. Jane Orie's chief of staff for "many hours" and tape-recorded the interview, according to a letter her attorney sent to the Allegheny County district attorney.
The letter from attorney Jerry McDevitt to District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. refers to the interview, but doesn't say when it occurred or elaborate on what its focus might have been.
McDevitt also filed an open records request for information from Zappala's office.
The letters McDevitt released today say Zappala's investigators obtained two boxes of documents from Orie's office which a staff member carried out days before the agents seized computer hard drives Dec. 11 from her district office.
The district attorney's office is using the county grand jury to investigate whether political activity occurred in Orie's district office in McCandless.
McDevitt said he didn't know whether Zappala's office subpoenaed the documents in the boxes. It happened before he began representing Orie on Dec. 9, he said in one letter to Zappala.

What a tangled web. Stephen A Zappala, DEMOCRAT, is brother to Greg Zappala, who owned the juvenile centers involved in the "Kids for Cash" kickback scheme in Luzerne County, PA (judges sentenced juveniles to these centers and received kickbacks; search keyword "kidsforcash").
So Zappala is going after a top Republican. Looks like a witch hunt to me.

Also, Orie never met the intern who went to Zappala about campaigning that went on from Jane Orie’s office for her sister Joan, who is nominee to the PA Supreme Court.
Probably is.
Weldon redux? At least they waited until after the election.
Ping for Trib & Kid.

She bought her sister her judgeship. The state senate inserted themselves into the sister Joan Orie’s race. I always thought we had a separation of powers.
And then we have the $10,000 Joan Orie donated to the Democrats of Philadelphia in her 2007 race for Superior court.
Joan is not the nominee but the Supreme Cout Judge elect to be sworn in next month. Unless there’s reason not to be sworn in> Hmmmmm
Very interesting; I didn’t know that.
I’m of the opinion that an “R” after one’s name means abolutely nothing anymore. It’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference these days between “R”s and “D”s.
