The Birchers were anti-communist and anti-UN when it was not “cool” to be so. They were (and are), when I knew them in the ‘70s, most zealously PRO-American. They were/are called a LOT of names, few of which fit. You COULD call them rabid, and it is true; they are rabidly proud of being Americans. They are rabidly anti-communist/socialist.
They are NOT, however, kooks. They are PASSIONATE. They love God, their families and their country. SOME of their views are statist, in my opinion, but then more of Reagan Man’s views are statist/big government than theirs. So if the Birchers are kooks, what does that make him?
I can get along with Birchers or libertarians, as they are anything BUT hypocrites. Who I loathe and despise are those who call themselves “conservative,” yet drool over THEIR guys growing government in order to control the behaviors of the rest of us that THEY deem bad. You know, just like the Leftists.
