Sen. Ben Nelson to announce support for health-care bill
The Washington Post ^ | December 19, 2009 | Shailagh Murray

Sen. Ben Nelson (Neb.), the final Democratic holdout on health care, was prepared to announce to his caucus Saturday morning that he would support the Senate reform bill, clearing the way for final passage by Christmas.

"We're there," said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), as he headed into a special meeting to announce the deal.

Democratic leaders spent days trying to hammer out a deal with Nelson, and worked late Friday night with Nelson on abortion coverage language that had proved the major stumbling block. But Nelson also secured other favors for his home state.

Asked if he was prepared to support the bill, Nelson said, "Yeah."

They overturn lots of things we don’t like. They’re for sale like the rest of the government. That’s where we should be spending our money.

They will be emboldened by this and will forge ahead with amnesty before the next election. THen, we simply cannot overcome the MILLIONS of new registered Democrats!
ACORN won’t even HAVE to get off their fat arses and register any dead folks!

“You really think the Supreme Court would do their job? They have dodging and weaving for years over the constitutionality of stealing a government. They usually say it is OK.”

This is ripe for the SC. Three things work against the Democrats:

1. The Constitution itself proscribes federal laws like this.
2. The people are overwhelmingly opposed to this law.
2. Both conservatives and liberals oppose this law. There may well be one or two liberal justices who would side with conservatives on this.

Some key republicans tried to move heaven and earth to stop this.

By doing what???? I'll agree with you these are good conservative republicans, but not one of these have walked away or caused a rukus. They could CRUSH the dems on this thing. And I mean crush them, but they're all content with just calmly indicating they won't vote for it, and not making much waves.

The roof needs to be raised on this thing and they're just lolly gagging around. Every single republican needs to walk out of that chamber and flip those dastardly dems the high middle salute on this vote!

FGS, they haven't even read the bill. The very least the the STUPID party could do is DEMAND the dems READ their own bill!! UNFYINGLY DDEMAND the bill be read and put this POS up on the net 72 hours before it's voted on like OBAMA and the dems PROMISED!

Walking out is what losers do. What they need to do is buy 5 democrats out. Quietly under the table. Keep quiet about it until the vote and pull the blind side. Whatever it costs. Spend the money and get it done. That’s what will win this.

“If GOP takes back Congress, doubtful, and repeals the final bill, doubtful, then Obama will veto the repeal and Congress wont override the veto, not doubtful.”

But the Dems will no longer have a filibuster proof Senate after 2010. That will limit the harm they do. The rest is up to the Supreme Court. The bill will impose stiff new taxes on the public and raise premiums—and the Dems will pay a steep political price for this.

“I wish that were true. They’re going to legalize all immigrants to vote for them in 2010, they have ACORN fraud in place all over the country, and their Secretary of State project is playing out nicely. They’ve taken over the United States of America without firing a single shot.”

This is defeatist talk and it weakens us psychologically as we prepare for battle. This is a cold civil war we’re in and we’ve lost a big battle. But the war’s not over. There’s other battles coming up—the Supreme Court, 2010, 2012. To win we’ve got to have the WILL to fight, not wring our hands and get discouraged. This is only the first stage.

“The Demoncrats are especially guilty of this, but too many of the GOP refuse to strictly discipline the RINOs who break ranks (and RINOs always break ranks to support liberal causes).”

I believe there was ONE Republican who voted for it in the House. It looks like NO Republican senators will vote for it - yet you claim there is not difference between the parties?

If we had 41 GOP Senators, this would not pass. But 40 CANNOT block it, and democrats only play hard to get so they can get $$$$.

Nelson was never going to block it. The only question was his price.

Oh, so your solution is just go all out corrupt? Yeah, I'm sure that's the ticket we need more of in gov't...

I agree Republicans generally are too gentlemanly—beginning with both Bushes. Which was why I liked Rudy. We got hung up on wedge issues last time around—and ended up with a gentlemanly loser. Time to show some cajones.

***Nelson’s Nebraska To Receive Extra Medicaid Funds Under Senate Bill***

When Congress wants to pass a bad bill this is how they allways succeed. Both the 1968 Gun Control Act and Bill Clinton’s now defunct Assault Weapons ban were passed by bribing the congress with lots of money to their states for various projects. To a Congressman the price of a vote against liberty is cheap.

He is the most popular of the Cornhusker politicians. They even voted down that “moderate” Tom Osborne. People in NE pride themselves on their “moderation” in all things. But they had two good senators ONCE, Carl Curtis and Roman Hurska.

Yes, even when Cornyn votes right, one can tell that he really hates to do so. There is no pizazz there.
