1:54 a.m. The Wythe County Sheriffs Office says Interstate 77 between Wytheville and West Virginia has been shut down due to the weather, and accidents blocking the highway. All other traffic on I-81 and I-77 is moving slowly with only one lane of traffic open.
National Weather Service says Roanoke has received a foot of snow. Blacksburg at 11.2 inches.
VDOT says multiple sections of Interstate 81 are not moving, on both the northbound and the southbound side from Rockbridge County through Wythe County .
I like snow, but this is a bit much.

Woodbridge here. I just went outside for a minute, looks like about ten inches so far, and this storm is just getting warmed up, so to speak.
I just LOVE it when I am right about something..and I nailed this one good. Last summer I did a lot of certified OUTHOUSE research on climate change. I spent days getting boned up on all the theories and research about global warming. As a result I wrote upon the outhouse wall: “This winter is going to be brutal”. I now know that I was correct and further analysis leads me to proclaim that it will be at least 30% more brutal than I estimated since I did not take into account the effect of cosmic rays on the cooler and denser low level water vapor in winter.
January, February and March are gonna kick our butts!
Sis in Richmond said she had 6-8" and that was around 7pm lat night. Bro in NC (beach) said rain was OK with him, but his road is a mud bog. They're talking more snow next week.
My dog doesn't want to go very far from the porch! Me either!
Last minute Caribbean cruises are cheap right now... hmmmm! I wonder if I can get to Dulles tomorrow? Travelzoo.com?
Does anyone know where I can get info on closings across the affected region?
Road closings, specifically.
maybe try a local (online) newspaper?
Perfect, thanks.
I keep threatening to move to the Equator. I don’t rate any time off anytime soon, but some time in the sun would be nice.
I’m not even going to try to shovel all the Global Warming off the walk until I’m sure that it has stopped. Oh well, I had planned to be housebound for a few days.
Just stuck my head outside again, the snow that I had just swept off the back steps is back again. It’s still coming down furiously.
So are we in the Washington DC area. I want the warmists to come and shove out my driveway.
My only hope is that the Democratic Senators went home for the weekend.
just tell them to “shove” it.
Does anyone have any idea when I81 might open back up? My husband was traveling on business and got caught and has been stranded for over 8 hours. Do you think they’re waiting for the morning?
75 and sunny would be a better solution, but we'll be waiting a while for that one.
At 7 am, I have over a foot on my deck. Some idiot drove by, and I laughed. It's all downhill!
They usually are supposed to work around the clock until they clear things out, but they probably don't have enough equipment to get it done fast. Prayers for him to have a safe, if not quick, trip.
Unfortunately it appears all but 2 Senators are there this morning - see the live thread about the Healthscam debate. (Some may have slept there)....

To those where the snow is falling and not showing signs of stopping.....hope you can stay warm and you have plenty of provisions as needed....and keep on Freepin’!
About 8” of powder on top of 1/2” of frozen stuff here in NC WV so far. Had to beat the snow off some branches that were sagging onto my electric service. A little wind to clear the trees would be nice.
I had a hard time getting home yesterday and I am used to driving in the snow. And I was driving a Subaru. It was really slick. We have a foot on the ground.
