A generation ago Oregon could have easily been in the happiest five - a lovely place saturated with Republicans. Now even 20th from the bottom I can't believe. Tax hell and bleeding jobs. Good if you are a state or school employee I reckon, but the state is as out of money as California, they're just pretending otherwise for the moment.
Oh and there are way too many lawyers here.

If you put “voted for Obama” or “voted-for-McCain” by each state, you will notice that as happiness diminishes, “Obama voted” states increase dramatically.
The top are almost all “Republican” states, the bottom 15 states are completely “Democrat”. Gives a whole new meaning to the term “blue states” !
Hummmm.
