WSJ/NBC News Poll: Tea Party Tops Democrats and Republicans

By Susan Davis

The loosely organized group made of up mostly conservative activists and independent voters that’s come to be known as the Tea Party movement currently boasts higher favorability ratings than either the Democratic or Republican Parties, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll coming out later today.

More than four in 10, 41%, of respondents said they had a very or somewhat favorable view of the Tea Party movement, while 24% said they had a somewhat or very negative view of the group. The Tea Party movement gained notoriety over the summer following a series of protests in Washington, D.C. and other cities over government spending and other U.S. economic policies.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party, which controls both the White House and Congress, has a 35% positive rating compared with a 45% negative rating.

Anyone here think that we may be seeing a birth of a new political party in this country?

It would be wonderful, both parties are so corrupt, but can a third party win elections? Rush keeps saying no. I wish it could happen though...

You wouldn’t need a Tea Party candidate.

All you would need is a REAL Conservative Republican for the Tea Party to vote for.

So CNN and MSNBC disparage this movement every chance they get when only 24% of the country has a negative opinion of it? Smart strategy........

I'm not a member of the Wizards, but unless the Tea Party movement succeeds within the GOP (and I hope and believe it will), it could indeed split the vote on the Right.

We have a precedent: Perot begat Clinton.

This is reminding me of Ross Perot way too much... Split the vote and you end up electing Democrats and that’s a real dumb idea. The mainstream media will push any movement as long as they look like they may hurt Republicans.

In fact, the Democrats are already thinking this out in the long term and joining ‘Tea Party’ movements in hopes of doing just that. Just like a great deal of the support Perot got was from Democrats in the polls, but they didn’t vote for him. The loons who were suckered did.

Well, I say one thing. I am not voting for a RINO again even if it means a Democrat wins. If Tea Party Candidates run and don't win, we deserve what we get. As bad as it is with Obama, I am more pissed at the GOP for running someone as hopelessly unelectable as John McCain in the first place.

Agree completely.

Needs to be done within the Republican party - like Marco Rubio needs to win in FL as a Republican, etc; no more Rhinos

The most leftists of the Dem party voted for Nader in 2000 and probably honestly cost Gore the election. They wised up and didn’t vote for him or 3rd parties as much in 2004 and 2008. Ross Perot hurt us sooooo much more in 1992, but people need to wise up about this 3rd party stuff. The party needs to be altered WITHIN and the Rhinos at the top of the party thrown out...*they* are the ones that have destroyed the party

Good point. Should some flake get involved and become a spokesman “leader” the RATS will walk free. Unfortanaely the RNC/GOP elites hate the base and have undermined efforts to get conservatives elected.

We have a precedent: Perot begat Clinton.

We have another precedent: Nader begat Bush II.

I just finished filling out a questionaire from the RNC and Michael Steele. After the questions, they ask for donations at the bottom of the sheet. I reworded their message to Conservative Republican Party and wrote on the bottom "Until I'm sure you are leading the Republican Party in the RIGHT direction, no donations."

I not holding my breath, or pulling out my wallet.

If there is a conservative third party will this split the conservative vote and help the Dems? Just asking.

Tea Party movement succeeds within the GOP

That's it. The media would love a 3rd party and that's why they are printing about it now. The Tea Party movement is the loud voice of the GOP.

This is very good news imo. The snide trashing by lefties, the perverted nicknames, the biased MSM and Alinsky tactics have not deterred people from looking at things through their own eyes.

Maybe the GOP will become the GOTP= The Grand Old Tea Party Party
