Ronnie talked about how the Government screwed up society

Precisely. The problem with the GOP's "social issues" is that they are Big Government in the bedroom, not pro-liberty.

When in doubt, quote Heinlein:

"Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort."

I was talking with some people yesterday that I consider fiscal conservatives and small government types. The conversation wandered to 0care and then to the abortion point. All four of them said (in one form or another) they could support the GOP more if the first filter was not always the social issues around abortion. They are not necessarily for it they just think there are bigger and more immediate issues for the Reps to go after.
