The minute your team loses its first game

You're confused about who is playing for which team.

As I pointed out, it is irrelevant — Ponzi Scams fail because that is the nature of Ponzi Scams, regardless of incidental surrounding circumstances.

Actually, the demographic trends indicated that the Goldwater mix (cut back on Big Government across the board) is the winning formula for modern times.

That wasn't my question.

Do you have ANY problem with abortion?

Yep. Or to quote a few more wise men:
"If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life."
--Henry David Thoreau
Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
--C. S. Lewis

I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. The biggest problem for a third party is ballot access. It’s very hard in many states, mine included, for a third party to gain ballot access until it becomes an established party. The Democratic Party successfully sued in several states to keep Ralph Nader off the ballot. So unless you have large sums of money for petitions and petition challenges, that is a huge obstacle.

Now we can all say “change the law, and give third parties ballot access!” But do you really think that can be done legislatively, if it affects the legislators’ incumbency? Click on the link and read Freire’s column. The solution is for the Tea Party to take over the Republican Party.

Our coins bear the words "In God We Trust".

That makes sense -- now that they make them out of tin or aluminum or whatever instead of gold and silver, you just have to take it on faith that they're actually worth anything.

go back to the true conservative stance that personal matters are none of its business.

Perhaps you can give us a detailed list of what you believe is none of government's business.

Here, I'll even get you started:

1. Abortion is a personal matter and none of government's business. TRUE or FALSE

2. Homosexual marriage is a personal matter and none of government's business. TRUE or FALSE

3. Drugs are a personal matter and none of government's business. TRUE or FALSE

4. Immigration is a personal matter and none of government's business. TRUE or FALSE

5. Prostitution is a personal matter and none of government's business. TRUE or FALSE

Judging from the record of actual recent Republican winners (e.g. McDonnell), the key to victory is in fact to focus on economic issues and not touch the social ones with a 10-parsec pole. Note that McDonnell was able to avoid being macaca’d by the thesis by distancing himself from it and declaring that he no longer held those views.

The first one arguably involves a non-consenting person; the fourth one definitely involves the basic government function of national security.

emphasizing federalism (and the limits of government) is a good approach on social issues

Indeed. It's amazing how many self-described "conservatives" understand that the government can't manage the nation's economy but believe that it is somehow capable of the far more difficult taks of managing the people's souls.

I’d agree with your answers, except I’d remove the word “arguably.”

Reagan didn’t talk about social issues. That’s odd. I remember him doing just that.

In 1983 Reagan co-authored a book with C. Everett Koop titled: "Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation."

How did the country vote after he wrote this right wing social screed? Did they run to the democrats to protect their precious right to kill their unborn children?

It’s a beautiful thing to see principled, righteous politicians. Perhaps because it seems so rare in this day and age.
