"One question that I have, why is the issue of evolution so PERSONAL to people?

So here is my PERSONAL answer: (1) I am a conservative (a conservative libertarian breed). I am also a scientist, working in the field of biomedical research. The scientific community is MOSTLY Leftist. In natural sciences this is not as bad as in humanities, but still a conservative PhD is a rare phenomenon. The life of a scientist who also happens to be a conservative is hard enough even without being associated with pseudoscience. (2) As a Christian I also believe that the YEC, in addition to being blasphemous, hurts Christianity in practical terms. Just as the analogous beliefs (geocentrism) hurt the Catholic Church several hundred years ago. If parts of the creed can be undermined (and 'creation science' falls apart easily), then how credible is the rest?

I’m in the same boat as you, although I’m not a scientist (I do have a doctorate, however). I did take 10 months off work to study the Bible with a group closely associated with the Assembly of God, and I was about the only non-YEC’er (as well as being the only one who didn’t speak in tongues). You can guess why they said I didn’t speak in tongues. However, I studied the Bible so thoroughly that everyone came to me with their Biblical questions. Indeed, I spent so much time in the Word that a counselor suggested that I should spend less time reading the Bible and more time “praising” God in during services (rather than prayer). Quite surprising. Anyway, I digress and I’m posting only to show my agreement with your comments.

Okay I understand that because I feel as well that a belief in evolution hurts the church and especially the teaching of sin and death and a need for a Saviour.

The question was really why do you take MY beliefs on the subject so personally?

Again I understand what evolution teaches. I find it lacking convincing evidence as do many people both Christian and non, both scientists and laymen.

You try to discredit anyone who questions evolution as anti/pseudo science. Alot of people believe evolution is anti/pseudo science. I have not tried to discredit you as anti science because I think your belief is wrong. I think your belief is wrong in this one area. There is a difference in operational science and historical science. Maybe you won’t stop your personal attacks until you realize this. Maybe until you realize that we are smart, well read even scientific people who have studied evolution and come away with a different view than yours.

You sir are intolerant of any view on this than yours. And THAT is the problem.
