It’s official. Global warming is continuing, despite attempts by sceptics to show otherwise. That was the message from the world’s leading climate scientists on the second day of the climate summit in Copenhagen.
One after the other, the British Met Office and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) went public with their latest measurements, showing that 2009 is shaping up to be the fifth hottest year on record and – more importantly – that the 'noughties’ are set to be much the warmest decade ever.
But just a few miles away from the cavernous Bella Centre, climate sceptics were saying exactly the opposite at an alternative conference. They claim, as a central part of their case, that the world has been getting cooler since 1998. But the scientists will have none of it. “We are in a warming trend. There is no doubt about it,” insisted Michael Jarraud, the Secretary General of the WMO.

Of course, that place is one huge echo chamber.
Actually their statement that, '2009 is the 5th warmest year on record...' does surprise me.
I know these guys think they own all the world's thermometers - but I believe 2009 had one of the coolest summers 'of memory', and winter isn't exactly shaping up to be all that warm either...
Sounds like an awfully odd claim on their part... But I guess if you are speaking in an echo chamber, and the objective is to 'top' the previous speaker with an even more outlandish lie ... I suppose anything goes.
So all those articles I read about 2009 being the coolest summer on record was lies? I’m starting to think there is no hope, they lie so badly and could care less who knows. I feel helpless.

I have it, they are claiming it is the warmest year worldwide, while the US has the coolest summer on record.
Still can’t believe a dang thing they say, but I have finally accepted that liberalism IS a mental disorder.
Had an ex-coworker comment on how fabulous Obama was while posting a sychophantic article about his Afghanistan speech. I disagreed and he said that “unemployment was topping out and the stimulus is working!” I replied that I hardly called a .2% decline DURING CHRISTMAS SEASON a ‘topping out’ and I had no proof the stimulus was working. He hasn’t replied back.
Just checkin' because it was pretty darn cold all summer where I come from.
When they were first launched the AWG crowd demanded that they be re-calibrated so they "matched" the temperatures then being reported by the ground stations.
The ground stations were, of course, exceedingly incorrect since they hadn't been properly maintained.
The re-calibrated satellite readings start at an incorrectly high temperature.
The AWG crowd are aghast that the temperatures reported by the satellites are DECLINING.
So, the fifth warmest year is actually about the fifth coldest ever reported by the satellite system.
I thought that might be the case ... but the US cuts through a pretty large chunk of the Northern Latitudes, and I didn't hear any stories this summer of Parisian Grandmas and Grandpas dropping like flies as they were abandoned by their Ne'er do well wine sipping offspring - who went off to 'holiday' on the beaches as the old folks croaked in their sweltering apartments...So I assume Europe didn't set any heat records. I didn't hear anything unusual out of Russia and China either - but I don't follow them too closely so I can't vouch that they didn't have unusual hot spells...But I doubt it...
I suppose 'its possible' ... but given the propensity for these guys to lie - I'm thinking that this is just more flim-flam...
The spring was pretty darn cold also.
Its all a sham and game for these people. Fleece the people by whatever means or scam they can come up with.
Don't give up just yet.
The American Physical Society is being urged to consider putting a hold on its statement concerning global warming due to "corrupted" science.

Yeah, that's the new "meme". It turns out that from the "climate models", the only parts of the planet that are suffering from cooling are North America and Europe. Coincidentally, those just happen to be the two places which have the best and most monitoring equipment, and in which the raw data are most likely to be available to the public (and "rogue scientists") who might question its validity. Strangely enough, the only places suffering large warming trends are remote areas where monitoring (and fact-checking) possibilities are scarce.
My diagnosis---more "cooking the books".
