Thanks for posting the surrender information,

I had a uncle who was there, aboard the USS Mansfield. Don’t remember him saying if they were involved in transporting the US representatives and/or the Japanese delegation.

Do remember him saying they were on high alert because of the possibility of the signing being interrupted by Japanese factions.

This will be my second visit to Hawaii. Last time was 1961. I was 13 years old and my folks and I were returning to the US after ten years in Japan. We were on the MSTS vessel W. A. Mann (part of the US Army's navy.)
We stopped for one day and went ashore to see the zoo, the palace, etc. The Arizona Memorial, over the sunken battleship, was under construction when we arrived in '61.
