Going Rogue brims with testimony about Palin's Christian faith. Its opening pages relate how Palin's daughter Piper literally became the poster child for the antiabortion group Alaska Right to Life by posing for a picture with "pretend angel wings fastened to her soft shoulders."
The book's final paragraph, meanwhile, reads like an altar call, the part of a church service when pew sitters are invited to commit their lives to Christ. "I do know there is a God," the former Alaska governor writes. "My life is in his hands. I encourage readers to do what I did many years ago, invite Him in to take over."
Though most of the talk surrounding the release of Going Rogue revolves around how it affects Palin's standing as a political figure, including her chances of winning the White House, should she choose to run, the book is as much poised to heighten Palin's profile as a Christian leader. "It's a mistake to frame all this in the context of her potential candidacy," Mark DeMoss, one of the country's top Christian media specialists, says of Going Rogue. "She wants to tell her story and the story of her personal faith journey."
At a time when politically conservative evangelicals lack a national figurehead, Palin's ability to connect with them could also deepen her appeal to a key part of the Republican base. "Christian audiences could respond to this like they did when George W. Bush talked about his faith," says John Green, a religion and politics expert at the University of Akron. "This community takes faith very seriously and likes people who talk about their faith journey."

She is an original, there has not been anyone like her in recent politics. Her approach is unique, her family is unique, her exploding head effect on liberals is unique. Moral values guide her, Common sense engulfs her, and trust follows her. She is not perfect, but she is a lot better person than I am.
Agreed, but her uniqueness is to politics. This fine country has thousands of Sarah Palin’s, and Palin families. That’s where he appeal lies.
Huckabee is good at banging his Bible and lecturing people on heathly eating, while he packs on the pounds.
If Huckabee can;t be President, he could be a successful tv evangelist.
YES!.....Sarah Palin is to America what Rush is to America....a real REFLECTION of TRUE America.
Amen!
I thought he had lost a lot of weight, like 100 pounds, several years ago. And I’ve never seen him “banging on his Bible”. But after the Clemmons debacle, don’t worry - he’ll never be president.
“Not after granting clemency to the cop killer he won’t be. James Dobson has a brain.”
Jim Dobson got sucker punched by the mass murderer Ted Bundy many years back. Good & Godly persons tend to see or perceive the “good side” in others because they believe/know that genuine redemption can occur. Sometimes they get fooled.....it goes with the territory.
In my 55 years I have seen persons that were real “hell raisers” be changed by God’s grace and never slip back to the old ways. I have also seen others that appeared to make a change and then slip back to their old ways to indicate they weren’t genuinely converted. I have never developed the ability to tell whom would “stay the course” and whom would not. Both Jim Dobson and Mike Huckabee are subject to being fooled.....just as anyone is.
I would speculate that Jim Dobson wouldn’t be as hard on Mike Huckabee as many here on FR.
I love James Dobson but I firmly believe that he hurt Fred Thompson in the primaries which eventually gave us McCain as the nominee. The only good thing about McCain is that he introduced us to Sarah. If it had been an energized Fred and if Sarah was his running mate (and not troubled by “handlers”) the Republicans would be in the White House and the ratios in the House and Senate would be much different.

Jim Dobson did hurt Fred, or should I better say that Fred hurt Fred by not agreeing to back a firm pro-life position and/or not showing more interest in his Christian walk. Dobson has been a lead figure amoung conservative evangelicals. Fred basically blew him off. Many of us conservative evangelicals considered that the equivalent to blowing us off. This is old history though and certainly not worth rehashing again.
politically conservative evangelicals lack a national figurehead, Palin's ability to connect with them could also deepen her appeal
Please, no. Sarah Palin's credentials as an "evangelical leader" are, what, exactly?
Is Sarah Palin the Next James Dobson?
And I'm not that enamored with James Dobson either.
