Engineers have to produce. "Scientists" only have to publish.
Having worked with both and I can say that is by and large a true statment.
I worked at an engineering and science labortory once and I'll never forget a conversation I had with a marketing guy at the lab.
He said we prefer to make our money producing "paper" (i.e. studies). It's easier. The engineering stuff is tough. They produce "iron". If the "iron" don't fly it'll come back and bite you in the ass big time. But the paper can be bullshit and no one will be the wiser.
